(Un)knowing Diversity - My First Book

I am excited to let you know that my first book will be published next month, February 2012.  The book presents the stories of five diverse youth in their own words.  They talk about their lives inside and outside of school, the challenges they face, their triumphs, their identities, their teachers, goals, and offer advice to educators of diverse youth.

It was a wonderful experience interviewing so many unique and inspiring students.  I came out a different person who more deeply understands how utterly complex it is to attempt to understand diversity and how easy it can be to meet students' needs - if we just stop and listen.  That's exactly what youth say: listen to us; care about us--a simple but important message to educators.
