How do I do it?
Post 6 large charts around the room. List an open-ended question related to the topic at the top of each. Give teams of 3-5 one colored marker. Teams discuss and write/draw answers to the question. Flicker lights and groups rotate. When teams arrive at their original poster they can discuss and then take turns summarizing the answers to the whole class.
Variations & Extensions:
Assess a group by looking at their team's work by the color marker they had. After discussion and share, have teams go around again. On the second round, teams must add to or revise what is already there. Ask teams to circle the 3 best answers to share whole group. Teams can write essays based on the charts. Instead of writing questions at the top of each chart use sentence starters (e.g. "I wonder..." "I disagree.." How is it possible that.." or use statements that students need to designate as true or false and include why they think so (evidence). Post pictures or primary documents etc. at the top of each chart. The possibilities and extensions are endless!
