Tip: Summarizing with Framing Sentence Starters

How do I do it?
At the end of a lesson or period, help students review what they have learned orally or by writing in learning logs by asking them to complete one or more of the following sentence starters:

   I still wonder..  
   Now I understand...
   I’d like to know more about...
   Something that doesn’t make sense is...
   Some questions I have are...  
   I agree that...  
   I disagree about ...  

Variations & Extensions
Extensions include asking students to pair-up and read one another’s entries or share their ideas orally with each other.  Another idea is to have students write their sentences on a post-it note and this becomes their “exit ticket” from class that they must complete and hand to you before they leave class.
