Is..and Is not..Vocabulary

Tip: Is..and Is not.. Vocabulary

How do I do it?
Divide a sheet of paper into 4 quadrants.  Choose a key vocabulary word that you want students to understand and complete the sentences starters in the 4 quadrants.  For example, for the word/concept fruit: Fruit is...from plants or trees, often sweet or juicy, healthy.  Fruit is not...from animals.  Fruit examples are: banana, apple etc.  Fruit non-examples are: steak, cheese etc.

Variations & Extensions
Keep an ongoing class chart with the headings: Is..; Is not..; Examples:; Non-examples: for all of your key vocabulary in the content areas.  Students can create personal dictionary pages using the Is.. & Is not.. format.
