Heart-Felt

Tip: Heart-Felt

How do I do it?
Heart-Felt - For K-ADULT students, direct them to think about things that they like about each member of their group of 5.  Choose a sentence frame or two, for example, " (Student name) makes me..." or "(Student name) is..." or "Thank you for being ____."  Whole class, brainstorm a list of adjectives and/or verbs that would be appropriate to fill in the blank.  Pass out construction paper hearts.  Post finished hearts on desk sides, above tables, or on the window.

Variations & Extensions:
Keep a box full of colored paper in your classroom.  Whenever the students finish work early, allow them the option to write a kind note to someone (e.g. the school librarian, secretary, cafeteria worker, etc.).  This will encourage them to appreciate those around them, practice saying kind words, and use new vocabulary!
