Word Race!

Tip: Word Race! To review key vocabulary in any subject area.

How do I do it?
Trace a path on a sheet of paper or poster board.  Divide it into 2-3 inch spaces.  Write key words in each space.  Teams of 2-5 roll a die or throw 3 pennies (and count the number of heads) and move that many spaces.  They must either pronounce the word, say the meaning, or use it in a sentence.  The first to reach the end is the winner.

Variations & Extensions
Write letters, numbers, or paste clip art or sketch pictures in each section of the path.  Foe extra challenge, direct students to say a synonym or antonym for the key word.  Students or a recorder can write down all of the sentences used and have a point system for good, great, or amazing sentences.

Common Core ELA Reading Standard 1
Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it; cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text.
